Arizona schools have the unique opportunity to implement energy-saving projects with ARRA funds allocated to the School Facilities Board and the State Energy Office.  Schools interested in applying for these funds should understand the requirements and the application process. 

The Arizona School Facilities Board, the State Energy Office and APS held a workshop on October 1, to help schools learn how to leverage these funds and plan projects that save energy, reduce costs and create sustainable benefits for the community.

Attendees walked away with an understanding of:

• The energy grant application process
• Project eligibility requirements
• Important application timelines
• Working with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs)
• Project financing options
• How utility rebates can be leverage with energy grant funds

All about the Energy Grants
John Arnold, SFB Executive Director, reviewed the desired elements of the Energy Grant application and walked through each step of the application process.  The presentation gives a clear understanding of the application requirements and the time involved in preparing and submitting a grant application.

School Success Stories
Jim Migliorino of Deer Valley School District and Dave Peterson from Scottsdale Unified School District presented on how they implemented energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.  They have shared lessons learned and offered practical insight into the process of reducing energy use.
